Poland has advanced to the semifinals of the GenJam Director’s Cup, the first global tournament of national teams producing films using generative artificial intelligence. Captained by Michał Owerczuk, Poland’s Team Eagles defeated France and Nigeria to secure a place in the tournament’s top four among 16 knockout teams drawn from 63 participating nations. In each round, competitors have just four hours to develop a complete film, including concept, visuals, animation, audio, and editing, based on surprise prompts revealed at kickoff.

“Advancing to the global Top 4 shows that Poland can be not only a recipient of new technologies, but also an active participant in building the future of world cinema,” (translated from Polish) said Michał Owerczuk, emphasizing that technological acceleration does not replace directing, vision, or authorial responsibility.
Owerczuk is channeling the experience gained from the international competition into WARSAW GLITCH 2026: International Future Cinema Festival, where he serves as initiator and artistic director. Scheduled for August 28-30, 2026, at Kinoteka in Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science, the event bridges cinema, animation, gaming, generative AI, and creative industry business.
The festival program will feature two live GenJam sessions involving Team Eagles members such as Matthew Szewczyk and Laura Tornga alongside the international Machine Cinema community. Events will also include masterclasses, industry discussions on virtual production, digital actors, and intellectual property, culminating in the WARSAW GLITCH AWARDS and the Golden Glitch Grand Prix.
