Polish news outlet Onet highlighted the forgotten story of over 1,200 Polish soldiers who served in the United Nations UNTAC peacekeeping mission in Cambodia between 1992 and 1993. Deployed to secure election preparations, disarm fighting groups, and return refugees to the country, the contingent handled typical logistics and engineering tasks, repairing roads and bridges while supplying operational units with food and water.

Michał Owerczuk is currently shooting a film about this mission, titled Cambodjana. “When I went to Cambodia, it turned out that people there still treat the UN mission participants like heroes today, and they remember Poles exceptionally warmly (translated from Polish),” Owerczuk told Onet.
A crowdfunding campaign on PolakPotrafi.pl was launched to fund the film, with profits intended to support a Cambodian school established by Polish veterans and named after Polish Soldiers. The project has involved Antoni Królikowski, Bartłomiej Topa, Konrad Marszałek, Krzysztof Trebunia-Tutka, and students from the Warsaw Film School.
