Cambodjana Film Campaign

Journalist and film director Michał Owerczuk launched a crowdfunding campaign on PolakPotrafi for Cambodjana, a documentary exploring the forgotten story of the Polish Military Contingent during the UNTAC peacekeeping mission in Cambodia. Dispatched 9,000 kilometers from home to a nation devastated by civil war, famine, and the Khmer Rouge genocide, Polish troops engaged in their first battle since World War II.

The film gives voice to veterans, correspondents, doctors, and other participants of the mission, with actor Bartłomiej Topa joining the project as narrator in the role of a deploying soldier. Having wrapped filming and gathered dozens of hours of amateur VHS archival footage from 1992 and 1993, the campaign sought funding to cover post-production costs, including editing, sound design, color grading, animations, and archival restoration.

Beyond chronicling military history, the project is tied to charitable aid for children in Cambodia. Proceeds from the documentary were designated to maintain and expand a school named after Polish Soldiers in the Takeo province, established by the UNTAC Veterans Association. Among the initiatives, Owerczuk pledged his own earnings toward fulfilling his dream of constructing a soccer field on the school grounds.
