Poland has advanced to the semifinals of the GenJam Director’s Cup, the first global tournament for national teams producing films with generative artificial intelligence. Captained by Michał Owerczuk, Poland’s Team Eagles defeated France and then Nigeria to place among the world’s top four teams out of 63 participating nations. In each round of the knockout stage, teams are given just four hours to develop a concept, generate imagery and animations, compose audio, and complete post-production based on assigned themes.

Owerczuk is applying insights from the international competition to his role as originator and artistic director of WARSAW GLITCH 2026: International Future Cinema Festival. Scheduled for August 28-30, 2026, at Kinoteka in Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science, the event will combine film, animation, gaming, art, generative AI, and creative business through screenings, workshops, pitching sessions, and the WARSAW GLITCH AWARDS.
A key highlight of the festival will be two GenJams organized with members of the Polish national team and the international Machine Cinema community. Creators associated with Team Eagles, including Matthew Szewczyk and Laura Tornga, will also appear in Warsaw for the event.
“The advancement to the world Top 4 shows that Poland can be not only a recipient of new technologies, but also an active participant in building the future of global cinema” (translated from Polish), said Owerczuk, emphasizing that technology remains an instrument driven by directorial vision and artistic responsibility.
