Book on Belarus Media

Michał Owerczuk is among a group of 29 journalists who co-authored the book “Partyzanci. Dziennikarze na celowniku Łukaszenki”. Created across editorial divides in response to the hijacking of a plane carrying Raman Pratasevich, the project brought together nearly 40 media professionals from nationwide Polish newsrooms working pro bono.

Across more than 300 pages, the book gathers 20 reportages detailing the experiences of persecuted Belarusian journalists, including Pratasevich, Sciapan Pucila, Kaciaryna Andreyeva, Darja Chulcowa, Julija Slucka, and Andrzej Poczobut. As project coordinator Arleta Bojke pointed out, independent media workers in Belarus face severe repression, physical violence, and imprisonment.

Published in partnership with Wydawnictwo Adam Marszałek, proceeds from the book support the Belarus in Focus Information Office to aid repressed reporters with legal assistance, equipment, and shelter. The project was officially presented at Press Club Polska in Warsaw on August 9.
